As things move along projects require investments in time and resources. Sometimes, it becomes clear that it will not work out as planned.
Maybe there has been some significant investment already but if it’s not working, when do you quit? When do you stop throwing energy, time or money at it? This is the point of opportunity cost, when it is decided that it will be best to take the loss and put your resources to work somewhere else. Strategic retreat is very similar to the idea of opportunity cost. Sometimes even good plans don’t work out, a relationship, schooling, a new town might have felt right but after some experience it is clearly not right for you. Maybe your ego is tied up in it or you are afraid what others will think. Forget about it. This is your life. Sometimes one step back is smarter than two sideways. Strategic Retreat is healthy, a place to regroup and get clear, refocus.
