Resource Policies

How effectively do you build and manage your resources?
Personal Policies - Resource Policies

The Resources Policy

This master policy is intended to help build a healthy understanding of what resources are important and how to expand them.  Material resources are merely stepping-stones on the path of personal growth.  Lasting resources include values, relationships, education, family, friends, and experiences. Taking inventory of your real resource needs can open doors and relieves the perceived pressure to accumulate stuff. For more life satisfaction, make due with less stuff.

Listen to your inner fan

In July of 2008 I sold a small tea business and had some money to invest.  I had been hearing about people making big returns in the stock market so without much experience in financial management I set out to put the money to work for me.  Over the next two months I placed big bets on a variety of stocks in different industries.  All along there was a little voice telling me that I was in dangerous territory, didn’t know what I was doing and could not afford to loose this money, but I ignored it thinking stocks always go up.

Beat the Buy Now Button

More than eight percent of Americans (twenty-four million people) are full-fledged compulsive shopaholics technically known as Oniomania. It is estimated that another twenty percent of Americans and a growing number of people internationally have allowed themselves to be seduced by the promise of consumerism. This need for instant gratification can lead to all sorts of problems but fortunately there are policies to help.

5 Pound Bag

Have you ever tried to squeeze more into a bag than was meant to fit? Try over packing a suitcase?  Overloaded a grocery bag? We all have.  Though this may seem like a good idea on the surface it really can be problematic.  An over-packed bag is hard to carry, hard to find stuff in when you need it and can even break the handles making it impossible to carry.  If we were a tree, our overloaded branches can break.  Why do we do it?

Look to the future

Look to the future

Of all the resources time is one of the slipperiest. As John Lennon said, “life seems to happen while you are busy making other plans”.  Paying attention to the ebbs and flows of time opens doors to an expanded ability to slow it down, soak it in, to feel it, own and define it.

"When you sit with a nice girl for two hours, it seems like two minutes. When you sit on a hot stove for two minutes, it seems like two hours, that's relativity." ~Albert Einstein

Want what you got

How often do you catch yourself in a state of lost faith, wandering the mental mine-field of wishing for a different life?  We all do it, the if only ego echoes, "If only"…I had a better job, … a different house, … a partner/was with a different partner, etc., etc., etc. The trick to getting past this is tending your gratitude garden with thoughts of, “I want what I have”.

Parallel planning

Even when you think you got it all worked out and have a life plan in place consider exploring other angles.  A beginner’s mind is always open to the better way, one that serves the long-view. Things change and paths wander, having multiple interests simultaneously opens doors to new ideas and help you hit the ground running as things change. The only thing constant in life is change.  Weather it be a line of work, a hobby or whatever spreading you life tree branches out is always a resourceful policy.

Remember the Ancients

One of the keys to creating a successful well-rounded life is becoming sensitive to the guidance of intuition. The connection to the unified field the ancients knew hasn’t gone anywhere, it’s been hiding in plain sight.  Early humans were not so distracted with ego, technology and economics. The ancients employed and followed life force intuition in their every day lives keeping needs and wants in balance.
